How to take admission in National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT)

NIFT has 16 different campuses with the main one being in New Delhi. The other 15 campuses are

These 16 institutes offer various UG, PG and diploma courses.

UG Programmes

6 courses are available in Bachelor of design stream which includes Fashion Design, Leather design, Accessory Design, Textile design, Fashion Communication and KnitWear design.

Eligibility

Have passed

  • The 10+2 examination of any recognized Central or State Board of Secondary Examination and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi. 
    or
  • For London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka,General Certificate Education (GCE) Examinationat the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB). 
    or
  • Any Public SchoolBoard or University Examination in India or in foreign countries which is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system. 
    or
  • 3 or 4-years diploma course recognized by AICTE or by State Board of Technical Education.

Similarly, one more course under Bachelor of Fashion Technology demands eligibility

  • The 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central or State Board of Secondary Examination and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. 
    or
  • For London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka,General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination at the advanced (A) level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics / International Baccalaureate (IB). 
    or
  • Any Public SchoolBoard or University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. 
    or
  • 3 or 4-years diploma course in any branch of Engineering recognized by AICTE or by State Board of Technical Education

Entrance Exam

National Institute of Fashion Technology Entrance Exam is conducted every year in the month of January for admission in these colleges. Two different exams are conducted on the basis of stream one chooses. The first one is CAT (Creative ability test) for B.Des. courses and GAT (General ability Test) for both B.Des. and BFTech. Courses.

The application form is usually released in the month of October and are filled by more than 20,000 students each year with only 2,800 seatsopen for admission.

PG Programmes

Master of design (ELIGIBILITY)

  • Undergraduate Degree in any discipline from any Institute or University recognized by law in India 
    or
  • Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from either NIFT or NID.

Master of Fashion management (ELIGIBILITY)

  • Undergraduate Degree in any discipline from any Institute or University recognized by law in India. 
    or
  • Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from either NIFT or NID.

Master of Fashion Technology (ELIGIBILITY)

  • BFTech. from NIFT 
    or
  • B.E or B.Tech. from any Institute or University which is recognized by the law in India.

Admission

National Institute of Fashion Technology Entrance Exam is conducted every year in the month of January for admission in these colleges. Two different exams are conducted on the basis of stream one chooses. The first one is CAT (Creative ability test) for M.Des. courses and GAT (General ability Test) for both M. Des., MFM and MFTech. Courses.

The application form is usually released in the month of October and are filled by more than 10,000 students each year with only 753 seatsopen for admission.

Doctoral Programmes

A research proposal is to be drafted and sent with the application form in prescribed word limit. The application must be submitted with the consent of a PhD supervisor.

Student shortlisted according to their paper will be called for a written test which will be of 1-hour duration. The question asked in the test will be based on logical reasoning, communication skills, aptitude and your research preference area.

The shortlisting will be done and student will be called for an interview and presentation.

Some exemptions are also made for written test when you are a PG Applicants with minimum 10 years of professional experience (teaching / working) in the areas of research relevant to NIFTor have aMaster’s degree who have minimum 10 years of experience and have cleared UGC NET, CEED, CSIR (JRF), similar tests and hold a valid score.
