Chartered Accountant

One of the most common choices made by students preferring a career in Accounting is Chartered Accountant. Aspirants looking for a career as Chartered Accountant will have to take exams, conducted by Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAI. There would be 3 examinations- CPT, IPCC and Final CA.

Being a Commerce graduate, you would be eligible to directly attempt IPCC exam which comprises two groups. On clearing one of these groups, you have to register for articles with highly experienced CA’s for about 2.5 years.

Once you clear both groups of IPCC along with the completion of articles, you would be eligible to attempt the Final CA exam. The Final CA also has two groups. On clearing both the groups, you will be finally entitled as CA along with your name!!

Masters of Commerce (M.Com)

Are you a B.Com graduate? Yet confused about your next step? Think about taking up a Master’s degree in Commerce. M.Com is most common choice one could think of, when it comes to Post-graduation, especially if you are B.Com graduate.

This is a two-year programme, from a reputed university or institute, focusing on the study of Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Taxation, Marketing and Management, hence giving intuitions about each field.

Masters of Business Administration (MBA in Finance)

It is obvious you would be influenced by people and agree to take up the course suggested hence taking up the management line. However, this course will have more value if you pursue it from a well reputed institute. You need to attempt CAT or similar exam, and the admission relies on the score in this exam. The content covered is analysed by the Institute of Certified Management Accountants (ICMA). You need to pass two exams so as to become a certified CMA. Certified Public Accounting (CPA)

This is the highest standard of competency in Accountancy stream around the world. The exam is conducted by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the largest accounting body in the world. This course is having the same significance as the CA in India. Besides the qualification in CA, CPA provides the knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, US, IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), Generally Accepted Accounting Standards (GAAS), Federal taxation and Business Laws, US. Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)

This is the drastically growing international accountancy organisation in the world, having 162000 members and 428000 students across 173 countries. If you are qualified with ACCA, you could have highly successful careers in Accounting, Banking, Management and Consulting, and hence you could get yourself to senior roles. Although it is similar to CA in India, ACCA offers advanced knowledge about the UK GAAP, IFRS and laws, which takes ACCA to a higher level of significance when compared to CA. After the completion of the course and the training, candidates will have to take the AITT or the All India Trade Test, which includes practical as well as the theoretical exam. Candidates passing the exam would be awarded NTC (National Trade Certificate) and would be qualified to get a job in the desired field.
