ARTS CLASS 10TH QUESTION PAPER 2020 (ICSE)

ART 

PAPER 1 

Drawing or Painting from Still Life 

Note: Two themes are given. 

Candidates may attempt either Theme A or Theme B.

EITHER  

Theme A 

Objects required: A big transparent bowl, an apple, a papaya, two bananas, an  orange and a pear. 

Arrangement: Make an interesting arrangement by placing a few fruits inside the  bowl and a few in front of the bowl.  Suitable drapery may be used for the background and foreground. 

OR 

Theme B 

Objects required: Two Samosas, a few green chillies, a big bottle of ketchup / tomato sauce, transparent tea glass with tea in it, a medium size plate and a few tissue papers. 

Arrangement: Create an attractive arrangement by placing a plate with the samosas and green chillies in front of the tomato sauce / ketchup bottle. Place a few tissue papers partially under the plate. Arrange a tea glass suitably. Coloured drapery may be used.

PAPER 2 

Drawing or Painting from Nature 

This Paper is divided into two Themes. 

Candidates may attempt the question either from Theme A or Theme B. 

EITHER  

Theme A 

A detailed study of an ‘Onion’ half cut from center. Two pieces should be kept so  that the outer and inner study of a specimen can be depicted. Special attention should be paid to colour, texture, form and structure. 

OR 

Theme B 

A healthy stem of Bougainvillea with flowers and leaves to be given to the  students. Special attention to be paid to the character of flowers and leaves through  form, structure, tone, colour and texture. In case this flower is not available, a  similar flower of the variegated kind can be used.

PAPER 3 

Original Imaginative Composition in Colour 

Attempt any one of the following topics:

 1. Depict a laundry shop. A man is ironing with a heavy iron. A radio is on. A lady  is folding and stacking clothes. A child is playing. Water mugs and hangers are  left unattended on the ground. 

2. A few ladies are sitting under a huge tree. A mother is combing her daughter’s  hair. The other ladies are busy doing other work.

3. Examinations are approaching soon. Students are visiting the school library.  Some are referring to books, studying and making notes. The librarian is keeping  an eye on all of them. 

4. Compose an early morning scene. The sweepers are cleaning the roads. A few  walkers and joggers are seen. The newspaper delivery boy is on a cycle flinging  rolled up newspapers into the front of each house, as he rides by.

ART 

PAPER 4 

Applied Art 

Attempt any one of the following questions: 

1. Design a book cover for your Grandma’s recipes. The cover title is ‘My Grandma’s Kitchen’. Use only four colours (paper white is  not considered as a colour). The size of the cover page should be  20 cm x 25 cm. 

OR 

2. Make a repeat pattern for a door panel of size 20 cm x 25 cm. Special attention should be given to creative design with good colour  scheme, tone and execution. 

Note: 

• Cutting and pasting of extra material is strictly prohibited. 

• Sequins, thread or magazine images must not be used. 

• Candidates should not use acrylic colours for making the poster.

ART

PAPER-1 

Drawing or Painting from Still Life 

Candidates may attempt either Theme A or Theme B. 

EITHER  

Theme A  Objects required: A ladies hand bag with a handle, a mobile phone, a pair of sunglasses and a closed colourful umbrella.  Arrangement: Arrange all the items to form an interesting composition. The items should be placed a few inches below the eye level. 

OR 

Theme B  Objects required: A big transparent jar, sugar, seasonal fruits (4 – 5 varieties) and a  spoon.  Arrangement: A spoon is placed in the jar which is half filled with sugar. Arrange fruits aesthetically around or below the sugar jar.

PAPER-2 

Drawing or Painting from Nature 

Candidates may attempt the question either from Theme A or Theme B. 

EITHER  

Theme A 

A healthy stem of Gladiolus flowers to be given to the students. Special attention  should be paid to the character of flowers, leaves and buds (form, structure, tone  and colour). In case this flower is not available, a similar flower of the variegated  kind can be used. 

OR 

Theme B 

Make a detailed study of one full and a half cut Papaya. Candidates may then  make an interesting arrangement.  

Special attention should be paid to details in the study of shape, light and texture.

PAPER-3 

Original Imaginative Composition in Colour 

Attempt any one of the following topics:  1.- A beggar is begging at the traffic lights. The road is crowded and people are busy on the move. Some are walking on the pavement ignoring the presence of the beggar.  2.- Show preparation, decoration and celebration with respect to any one festival. 3.- In a shop selling Indian sweets a man with a turban and a big moustache is seen preparing Jalebies. A few people are waiting to be served.  4.-During vacation, a group of children are having fun. A child is teaching another to cycle. A few are cheering and motivating the rider.

PAPER-4 

Applied Art 

Attempt any one of the following questions:

Q.1 Design an expressive logo for an NGO working on ‘Educate the Girl Child’. The size should not exceed 15 cm x 25 cm. 

OR

Q.2 Design a poster creating awareness of ‘Global Warming’. The slogan ‘Are you doing all you can?’ should be incorporated in your design. The poster must be 15 cm x 25 cm in size.  Note: 

  • Cutting and pasting of extra material is strictly prohibited. 
  • Sequins, thread or magazine images must not be used. 
  • Candidates should not use acrylic colours for making the poster.

ART

PAPER-1 

Drawing or Painting from Still Life 

Candidates may attempt either Theme A or Theme B. 

EITHER  

Theme A 

Objects required: A set of two kites of different colours and shapes / designs, one  large spool (wheel) of threads (manjha), a hat / cap and a water bottle. 

Arrangement: Create an attractive colourful arrangement by placing a spool  (wheel) of threads (manjha), a hat / cap and a water bottle in front of the kites. A suitable background must be included. 

OR 

Theme B 

Objects required: A plain white canvas stretcher or a board, a big paint bottle, a  bowl of water, 3 brushes and any one seasonal vegetable (like pumpkin, bottle gourd (dudhi / lauki) etc.) 

Arrangement: Place the vegetable in such a way that the canvas gets partially  covered. Paint bottle, brushes, and water bowl should be placed aesthetically. A suitable background must be included.

PAPER-2 

Drawing or Painting from Nature 

Candidates may attempt the question either from Theme A or Theme B. 

EITHER  

Theme A 

Make a detailed study of two healthy stems of Tuberoses. An attempt should be  made to show the characteristics of the stem flowers, leaves and buds. In case this  plant is not available, a similar plant of the variegated kind can be used. 

OR 

Theme B 

Make a detailed study of 2 tomatoes (one cut, another uncut) and 2 whole bananas  (unpeeled). Special attention should be paid to its form, structure and character.

PAPER-3 

Original Imaginative Composition in Colour 

Candidates must be instructed that ruling by any means whatsoever is forbidden. 

You are required to make an original composition based on one of the subjects given  below. Bear in mind that the quality of the composition, feeling, and originality are the  main objects of this Paper. 

Before starting work, take note of the following instructions: 

1. You must, on no account, base your composition on any picture you have seen. 

2. Except for the number of the question and your Index Number and Unique ID you  must not write anything on the front of the picture; however, you may write  anything you wish to explain about your subject on the reverse of the Art sheet. 

3. Your picture should fill, or approximately fill, your sheet of paper. The intended marks for questions or parts of questions are given in brackets [ ]. 

Attempt any one of the following topics: 

1. A Walk in the Woods. 

2. A group of children trying to pluck mangoes from a tree. Out of excitement, some have climbed up the tree. One of them is plucking a bunch of mangoes  while some others are eagerly waiting on the ground.

3. A few students are working on their preferred skills (e.g. sculpting, weaving,  painting, etc.) in the art studio. A teacher is inspecting and guiding them. 4. It’s morning time and birds are chirping with flowers in full bloom.  

A grandmother is putting very colorful Rangoli in her courtyard.  Grandchildren are watching with curiosity.

PAPER-4 

Applied Art 

Attempt any one of the following questions: 

Q.1  Make a repeat pattern for a table mat of size 20 cm x 25 cm. Special  attention should be given to simple and creative design with good colour  scheme, tone and execution. 

OR 

Q.2 Design a cover page of a book titled ‘MY FANTASY WORLD’. Make it  attractive with colours and writing. The cover page must be 20 cm x 25 cm
