How to Become Income Tax Officer After 12th

The Income Tax (IT) department is a government agency dealing with tax collection matters. IT Officer is the person dealing with tax-related matters concerning with CBDT (Central Board of Direct Taxes). It is generally abbreviated as ITO.

Eligibility

For becoming the ITO, a candidate needs to be eligible for the below mentioned following criteria:

  • Citizen of India
  • Minimum qualification: Bachelor’s Degree or graduate in any stream from any recognized university
  • Age Limit: Minimum age is 18 years and the maximum is 27 years
  • Age relaxation for OBC is 3 years and for SC/ST is 5 years
  • Physical eligibility:

Height :157.5cm

Chest :81cm ,fully expanded with a minimum expansion of 5 cm

i)Walking:1600 meters in 15 minutes

ii)Cycling:8 Km in 30 minutes

Exam and Selection

The designation of ITO can be achieved after clearing the exam conducted by SSC (Staff Selection Commission) which is generally conducted annually in the month of April.

A candidate needs to undergo written, oral and physical tests so as to get selected for ITO. After clearing all the 3 phases, then the interview round would be conducted. The qualified candidate would be assigned the post of ITO.
