How to Become An Astronaut After 12th

An Astronaut is a person who travels to space for research work. Their role is to pilot and command the spacecraft and also acts as a crew member of the spacecraft along with exploration work in space.

Eligibility

The below are the mentioned conditions which are required for a person to apply in NASA as an astronaut:

  • Completed 10+2 with PCM from a recognized institution and earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering, physical science, biological science or mathematics, although, more preferences would be given to students with master’s and Ph. D degree holders.
  • Have at least 1,000 hours in jet aircraft as pilot-in-command for becoming astronaut pilot.
  • Physical requirements of NASA:

Blood pressure: 140/90

Distant visual acuity: 20/100 or better uncorrected, correctable to 20/20 each eye.

Height: between 62 and 75 inches for astronaut pilots; 58.5 and 76 inches for mission specialists

Hearing level: meet the requirements

Entrance exam

There are different entrance exams conducted in order to apply for NASA and ISRO:

  • For NASA, one must appear for entrance exam conducted by NASA for hiring astronauts and can check details on the official website of NASA
  • For ISRO, one must clear JEE and should take admission to IITs or NITs as ISRO directly recruits the candidates from there itself.
