An Astronaut is a person who travels to space for research work. Their role is to pilot and command the spacecraft and also acts as a crew member of the spacecraft along with exploration work in space.

Eligibility

The below are the mentioned conditions which are required for a person to apply in NASA as an astronaut:

Completed 10+2 with PCM from a recognized institution and earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering, physical science, biological science or mathematics, although, more preferences would be given to students with master’s and Ph. D degree holders.
Have at least 1,000 hours in jet aircraft as pilot-in-command for becoming astronaut pilot.
Physical requirements of NASA:

Blood pressure: 140/90

Distant visual acuity: 20/100 or better uncorrected, correctable to 20/20 each eye.

Height: between 62 and 75 inches for astronaut pilots; 58.5 and 76 inches for mission specialists

Hearing level: meet the requirements

Entrance exam

There are different entrance exams conducted in order to apply for NASA and ISRO:

For NASA, one must appear for entrance exam conducted by NASA for hiring astronauts and can check details on the official website of NASA
For ISRO, one must clear JEE and should take admission to IITs or NITs as ISRO directly recruits the candidates from there itself.
