How to Become a Chartered Accountant After 12th

A chartered accountant is the most respectable profession for commerce line students. It is commonly known as CA. It was established in Britain in 1854. The course is conducted by ICAI – Indian Chartered Accountant Institute.

Eligibility

In order to apply for CA, a candidate should:

  • Have passed 10+2 class with at least 60% in commerce stream.
  • Have to enroll with ICAI immediately after 12th and appear for CPT – Common Proficiency Test
  • Have knowledge of computers

Course Structure and Duration

The interested candidate can become CA after completing the complete CA course for 5 years. The course is divided into 4 levels as given below:

  • CPT – Common Proficiency Test – It is the first level entry course which includes general economics, aptitude test, mercantile laws, and accounting.
  • IPCC – Integrated Professional Competence Course – After clearing CPT, the candidate needs to apply for IPCC 9 months prior to the exam and 100 hours IT training needs to be completed.
  • Articleship – Candidate needs to appear for 3 years articleship after qualifying IPCC.
  • Final Course – The candidate should appear for CA final course and exams in the last six months of articleship. Post-qualifying exams, one is titled as CA.
