How to become CID Officer After 12th

CID stands for the Crime Investigation Department. It is a government agency that investigates criminal cases. The officers working under this profession is known to be as detectives. It was formed in 1906.

The main role of the CID officer is to investigate, collect evidence, catch criminals and present them in court. There are many subdivisions under the CID department.

Eligibility

In order to be a CID officer, one must:

  • Be a citizen of India
  • Be a graduate from a recognized university/ institution/ college
  • Age limit is 20 years to 27 years along with the relaxation of up to 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC
  • Physical requirements: Height – 165 cm for men and 150 cm for women; Chest – 76 cm expansion for men

Basic Skills

  • Excellent communication
  • Sharp eye for catching details
  • Knowledge of current affairs

Selection Process

There are two ways to enter CID:

  • Enter the police force after graduation. From there, the promotion or transfer to CID as per the performance or record. For being a CID officer, should have 2 years experience as a uniformed officer
  • Appear for Indian Civil services examination conducted by UPSC which comprises of written test, interview, and physical test.
