How to Become an IPS Officer After 12th

The IPS stands for Indian Police service, was formed in 1948 and is one of the services among the three All India Service of Indian Government. IPS officer is responsible for maintaining law and order and peace among the people.

He/She serves the nation at district, state, and central level. IPS is further divided into many other branches as well such as CID, Crime Branch, Traffic Bureau, and Home Guards.

Eligibility

For a person to become an IPS officer, the below are the eligibility criteria:

  • Candidate must be a citizen of India, Nepal or a subject of Bhutan.
  • The candidate could be a Tibetan Refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, to be settled permanently in India.
  • Candidate should be a graduate from any recognized college/ university/ institution.
  • Candidate should be minimum 21 years old and maximum 32 years old as on before August 01, 2019 so as to apply for IPS post.

Entrance Exam

The candidate needs to appear for three-phase CSE exam conducted by UPSC – Union Public service commission. Three Phases of the exam is Preliminary, Mains and Interview.

Interview

The candidates qualifying mains should download the interview letter from UPSC’s official website and should clear the interview round to be an IPS officer.
