How to Become CBI Officer After 12th

CBI stands for Central Bureau of Investigation. It is a government body which investigates the scams, economic and special crimes, and high-profile cases. The CBI headquarters are located in CGO complex near Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi.

It was formed in 1941 as SPE – Special Police Establishment by the Government of India. In 1987, the 7 subdivisions of CBI was formed.

Eligibility

In order to apply for the post of CBI, one should satisfy the following eligibility conditions:

  • Candidate should have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university/ institution/ college
  • The age limit is 20 – 27 years for the general category with the relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC
  • Physical requirements: Height – 165 cm for men and 150 cm for women; Chest – 76 cm with expansion for men and no criteria for women

Entrance Exams

There are two exams for two different posts in CBI:

  • Group A Officer – Civil Service Exam conducted by UPSC
  • Sub-inspector – Combined Graduate Level Examination conducted by SSC (SSC CGL)

The SSC CGL is a 3 tier exam with Tier 1 as preliminary exam and Tier 2 as Mains exam; Tier 3 as Personality test or personal interview along with Document verification.
